Beep beep!

This week’s topics in Russell Robins were Beep Beep Day, People Who Help Us, and Nutrition and Hydration.

We have certainly had a super busy week, packed with lots of fun, laughter and… picnics! The week started with a shopping trip to the Old Hall to collect our groceries. The children all did a fantastic job and once back in class, they helped to unpack everything. After our morning snack, we went up to the Russell Hall to watch Form 5’s Dress Rehearsal. Mr McCarthy was very impressed with how well the children sat for the duration of the performance. Well done, Robins!

As part of this week’s topics, I shared the importance of staying safe near roads. A discussion was had around how the different types of vehicles and how we could protect ourselves. The children have learnt a new song (and actions) this week, perhaps they might share it with you.

Oh when I walk, across along the road,

Oh when I walk across along the road,

I need to stop 🛑, look 👀 and listen 👂,

When I walk across the road.

There were also many other things we discussed, such as wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter and the children remembered to wear a seatbelt if they travelled by car.

Children learn in a variety of ways, so with this in mind, we watched a video on the CTouch about staying safe near roads and then we watched and shook our bells to a song.

The children have enjoyed playing the role of doctors, veterinary practitioners and dentists. Apparently, I had a worm in my ear so I had to visit the Robins doctors. The children are looking forward to our dental visit next week. I am sure the children will enjoy listening to all the interesting facts.

We made the most of the sunny weather with some picnics in the front garden and school field. There was a wonderful surprise on Wednesday when we went to the school field for a hot chocolate. In fact, there was something brown and cute! It was a pony grazing in the field. The Robins enjoyed watching him eat. We then also said hi to the sheep, too.

Continuing with our topic, the children enjoyed adding colour to their sheets. They also used a variety of materials to add to their group car collage.

As a special treat, the Form 6 children came with us for a walk around the school grounds. The Robins enjoyed holding the older children’s hands and they thoroughly liked chasing bubbles across the field. We then stopped off at the Pirate Ship for a quick play on our way back to class.

In music, the children enjoyed singing a variety of songs and they were able to identify the different colour scarves. They enjoyed singing and they all took turns with the musical instruments.

In PE, lots of fun was had exploring the sensory circuit. I modelled how to use the equipment and we had a discussion about staying safe whilst also trying new things. The children were able to negotiate space and use the equipment in different ways.

This week’s cooking activities consisted of yummy bread rolls, ready steady go pizzas, a giant cookie and banana cake. We saved some of our banana cake to eat on the school field after our music session on Thursday. The Robins certainly love spending so much time exploring the outdoors and having lovely picnics together… making special memories.

The children have enjoyed lots of creative fun, dabbing white paint onto car stencils which looked wonderful on black paper. There was also a big car picture which required lots of sticking and working together.

At this point in the term, we say goodbye to some of our Robins, as they fly the nest and make their journey to Nursery, ready for many more exciting experiences. It has been lovely meeting our new Robins and we look forward to welcoming them after Easter. This will be my last bulletin for this term. Miss Ruby and I wish you all an egg-cellent break and we look forward to welcoming you back in the Summer Term with some new Robins.

Next week our topics are Baby Animals, Easter and Mother’s Day. Your child is welcome to bring in something from home linked to our topic or their interests (bookbag size). They will have the opportunity to share these during Show and Tell.
