Budding young writers
07 Mar 2025A very busy book week is drawing to an end and our children have enjoyed many of the different activities that have been put on for them.
Particular highlights this year include the dressing-up day on Thursday for World Book Day and the visits from two authors. First we were treated to Dr Hannah Weston-Simons, a real-life GP, visiting us to read a collection of poems from her book Blood, Bones & Bladders, before Lindsay Galvin led a workshop explaining to the children her process for writing a story and offered advice to some of our budding young writers.
Elsewhere in the timetable, Form 7 have experienced many practical tests and experiments. In science lessons, they have been testing various substances with indicators to assess their merits for use, including comparing their ease of use, cost and accuracy. In maths lessons, the children have been measuring the volumes of different spherical sports balls through displacement before checking their accuracy using callipers and a mathematical formula.
Although we still have one more rugby and netball fixture to go, this week saw the end of the chess season. Well done to the children that have been involved throughout and have represented Russell House so well.
