Celery turning red
28 Feb 2025In science, Form 5 have been making observations of plant life.
To begin, Form 5 wrote up their observations of the various states of their cress plants (though most have survived this year). Next, they examined the cross-section of celery, which had carried red coloured water up the stem in the xylem overnight, to observe the vascular bundles.
Along with rehearsals for the Form 5 play, the class has been enjoying the Ted Hughes classic, The Iron Man. Although initially disappointed that there was no Tony Stark involved, the pupils have nonetheless grown to love this modern fairytale and they particularly enjoyed creating delicious-sounding meal choices for an Iron Man Café - brass burger in hubcap buns with a side of deep-fried chrome chips and homemade 'carchup', anyone?!
