Check mate!
17 Jan 2025It was great to see many of our children back in action on the sports field this week.
The boys played rugby fixtures against Hilden Oaks and the Form 6 and Form 7 girls fielded four netball teams to play against Caterham and St Michael’s. There was also a return to competitive fixtures of chess, where Edward and Freddy represented the school very well. It would be lovely to see as many parents as possible at our sporting fixtures to cheer us on.
This week has also seen the start of House Music, which has a theme of Elvis Presley. Each House had to listen to a selection of songs, played by their House Captain, before everyone voted for the song that they wanted to perform. The results were then revealed in Choristers. We are looking forward to performing and choreographing dances to Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, Return to Sender and Can’t Help Falling in Love in our competition at the end of term.
This week, we have had some very exciting lessons, including continuing with a project on circles in maths and being introduced to the Amazon project in English. Both projects require lots of individual choice and multiple parts to be completed across a period of time. In maths, we have produced some pieces of art work requiring the use of a compass. We used a technique called inscribing shapes. This happens when a shape is inside another shape, such as the concentric rings in a tree trunk. The children had lots of choices to make about their presentation, with some choosing to work on a computer, some choosing to create a colourful piece from scratch and others attempting to make a 3D model.
