Dive right in!
27 Jun 2025We started the week off by diving into a strange yet peaceful world, full of weird and wonderful creatures, under the sea. We watched a video about life in this watery world, and found out some fascinating facts about octopuses, sea slugs and manatees. The children loved discussing the animals we had seen and sharing which ones were their favourite.
On Tuesday, the day we had all been waiting for finally arrived… Sports Day! It was so lovely to see all of the mummies, daddies and other family members cheering the children on. It made a big difference to the children, as their legs went a little bit faster, and the balls and beanbags landed closer to their target. It just goes to show that a little support goes a long way! It was wonderful to see the Transition children cheering on their friends in Nursery and Form 1 too, and not giving up when things went wrong.
They displayed courage and determination and managed to do it all with huge smiles on their faces. Well done Transition!
Our letter sound this week was e. The children liked the shape of this letter and came up with some brilliant suggestions, including; elbow, egg, elephant and even elevator! The children have been working hard to include lots of colour and detail in their drawings and have been looking really carefully at the shape of the letters in their names.
In maths this week, we played a really fun game of number bingo. I was amazed at how quickly the children found the numbers. They are getting so good at their number recognition.
There has been lots of sea-themed play this week, including; creating water slides for the sea creatures, making mermaid tails with playdough and making scary fish puppets. The children have also enjoyed making ice cream and milkshakes in our new outdoor café!
On Wednesday, we enjoyed listening to the story Sharing a Shell and looking at all the different sea creatures in the illustrations. It provided a good opportunity to talk about kindness and sharing too. The children are always thinking of new ways in which they can show kindness, and this week, our Kindness Tree sprouted yet another two leaves! After the story, the children chose a shell to decorate for our interest table which has added colour and sparkle.
On Thursday, it was time to cross the Channel as we celebrated French Day. The children looked fantastique in their costumes and they all enjoyed speaking French to each other. We greeted our friends and teachers by saying bonjour and remembered to say merci when anyone helped us. French Day wouldn’t have been complete without croissants and our little chefs were ready to accept the challenge of making them. They added a chocolate filling, carefully rolled the pastry, then dusted the top with icing sugar. Everyone thought they were tres delicieux! We thoroughly enjoyed the picnic with our friends too.
