We started the week with a visit to the Old Hall to collect our shopping from the pop-up shop. The children listened to my instructions and then, before carefully packing the shopping, they were able to identify a variety of fruit and vegetables. As part of our topic, the children enjoyed using a variety of mark-making tools to add colour to their environmental pictures. Miss Ruby spoke to the children about turning off the lights to save energy and one of the children told us that their mummy and daddy always turns the lights off at home, too! 

Lots of fun was had in PE, exploring the sensory circuit. The Robins jumped, balanced, crawled and swam across the blue massed mat which was, of course, the sea. 

There was lots of patting, kneading and rolling during Tuesday’s bread roll making session. The children listened very well to Miss Ruby’s instructions and they persevered turning their rolls into different shapes. Our other cooking activities consisted of fruit salad and reduced sugar banana cake. 

On Wednesday, Mr McCarthy visited us and read us a lovely story called Travelling. The children liked identifying all the different types of transport and connections were made to environmental awareness. 

Our Harvest songs have already started and you might be lucky enough to hear your children sing them at home. There are certainly some very catchy tunes and our favourite is… Dingle Dangle Scarecrow! 

The Robins have enjoyed listening to stories, playing games, completing puzzles and having lots of fun in the sand, making sandcastles and fun memories. 

Next week, our topic will be Our Senses. I have arranged a visit from a dental practice to talk to the children about the importance of brushing their teeth and how they can look after them. We have lots of fun activities planned to support the children’s learning. The children are encouraged to bring in something from home (just not too big please) related to our weekly topic or anything else they would like to share or celebrate with us. The children enjoy sharing their objects from home during carpet time and it is a fantastic way to build effective communication and listening skills.
