Exploring Mars

Form 6 headed off to The Natural History Museum with sunny smiles, despite it being a rainy day.

Once they arrived at The Natural History Museum after their train commute, Form 6 were able to explore many interesting and interactive displays, as they began to immerse themselves in their primary mission: to explore Mars! Of course, to explore Mars effectively, one needs rovers, so Form 6 set to building these out of Lego and set to programming them. They did a fantastic job of this and soon the surface of the red planet was swarming with mini rovers! In maths, F6 enjoyed playing the game gone fishing, in which they had to combine their division knowledge with strategy as they competed to create boxes and trap fish to earn points against their opponents. A copy of the game is accessible on Google Classroom, should you wish to play the game at home.

Form 6 participated in a Gamelan workshop. Gamelan is a traditional Indonesian percussion orchestra, primarily from the islands of Java and Bali. It features bronze gongs, metallophones, cymbals and drums, all working together to create intricate, interlocking melodic and rhythmic patterns which are central to religious rituals, dance, shadow puppetry and social life in Indonesian culture.
