Fairy tales

This week’s topic in Russell Robins was Fairy Tales.

As usual, we started the week with a visit to the Old Hall to collect our weekly shopping. The children sat nicely whilst I showed them the various fruit, vegetables and other items. These experiences are great as they provide children with the skills they need later in life to understand the world around them. Repetition is key in the early years as it can lead to better memory retention and increased confidence. Good life skills, Robins.

There has been a lot of mathematical language this week as part of our topic. First, I introduced the various sized picture cards. Then, the children listened as I showed them the smallest bowl, the middle-sized bowl and the biggest bowl. Finally, the Robins had fun listening to my clues and carefully worked out which was the correct one. We repeated this with spoons and various sized beds. This practical activity was enjoyed by all and one of the parents shared that their little one had repeated the learning at home.

Continuing with our topic, the children used Disney characters to make patterns in their playdough and some of the children made some birthday cakes… great imaginations, Robins!

There was lots of water play this week to keep us cool during the high temperatures. We also enjoyed picnics in the shade. The children love eating their snack outside amongst nature and it is always lovely to listen to the birds.

Trains are a fond favourite in Robins, so as a special treat, we waited by the fence for them to whoosh past. I think this was the main highlight of the week for some of our children. We are certainly very lucky to have all this to explore each day. Whether it’s watching the trains go past, visiting The Farm, saying hi to the sheep or venturing around our extensive school grounds.

There have been lots of yummy smoothies to keep us cool and even a special rocket lolly treat…5,4,3,2,1…blast off! It was wonderful to see the excitement in the children’s faces as I whizzed fruit and milk together in our smoothie maker. The children eagerly stood by the gate and watched whilst I pressed the button.

This week’s cooking activities consisted of cinnamon rolls, banana cake and sweetie plum cobbler. The children used the safety knives to slice plums and we worked together to remove the pips. Finally, we boiled the plums on the hob and added cinnamon

Our Pre-Prep Summer Celebration is getting closer and we can’t wait to show you our fantastic singing and actions next Wednesday. Miss Ruby and I have been very impressed with the children’s rehearsals. Fingers crossed all goes well on the day.

Our nurturing approach and home-from-home environment helps children to settle well and build strong relationships with us. The children feel secure and they look to us for support and comfort which helps their personal growth. The Robins also like to help each other and their teachers which is great.

Form 6 visited us regularly during this academic year and we wish them well as they move into Form 7. We are looking forward to meeting our new helpers in September.

Well, this is the last bulletin from me and I wish you all a lovely summer break. We have lots of Robins moving up to Nursery as they fledge and make their way through the Pre-Prep. Miss Ruby and I look forward to welcoming our new children in September, along with our existing Robins. We can’t wait to hear all about your exciting news on our return.

Finally, I want to say a HUGE thank you to all our parents for their continued support. By working together it contributes to the children’s overall success. It has been great sharing items from home as part of our topic.

Happy holidays ☀️
