Farmyard work
08 May 2026This week we have been learning all about the farm with our new story of the week, Cock-a-doodle Poo!
The children have really enjoyed this story so far and can already recall lots about the events that occur, as well as lots of information we have learnt about farmyard animals.
During a group discussion, the children were able to share their own experiences of going to the farm, the animals they saw and all the important jobs that farmers do for us. They used this information to help them role play at our farmyard tuff tray set up, where they demonstrated great communication and language skills as well as their imaginations.
We have been very busy doing lots of arts and crafts, not only creating our own farm animals for our display, but also when learning about our emotions. We have been looking at the story The Colour Monster to identify different feelings and learn how to regulate them. All of Nursery class loved this book and were able to give some amazing answers when asked to recall a time when they had felt each emotion.
We worked as a team to decorate our huge confused monster, allowing the children to explore colour mixing and mark making. The children also enjoyed creating their own feelings jars, using lots of different materials to represent each colour.
During our Pre-Prep assembly, the Robins class treated us to a presentation all about dinosaurs (a favourite amongst the Nursery children), and we even had a little dance to get us ready and energised for the day. Our special leaf was awarded to somebody who has been building up their resilience and confidence to try new things independently.
We are all very excited for next week when we go on our school trip to Willow's Wildlife Trail, and hopefully see some of the farm animals we have been learning about. Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
