Where do I belong?
13 Feb 2026The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health week was belonging.
Across the week, the children have engaged with multiple activities, which have enabled them to think about groups within their school, family and community with which they feel connected. Form 7 particularly enjoyed creating their own puzzle pieces, which helped to demonstrate how we connect with others, even though they might not like exactly the same things as us. The class were also given a secret mission to provide a few moments of undercover kindness to somebody else in the room, who did not know their identity. This was a really fun task as it made us realise how a small act can make a big difference to somebody’s feelings.
It was also Safer Internet day on Tuesday in school. After Mr Trigger’s assembly, Form 7 continued to learn about safe practice in their computing lessons. This year’s theme explored how AI could be used for good in our day-to day lives but also pointed out a few common red flags, and directed the boys and girls where they should go if they encounter any problems.
In gymnastics, the children have been choreographing their own gymnastics routines and working hard to learn new skills. This week, they worked with a partner to offer feedback on their individual skills and routines and they then used this feedback to make improvements. Children were specifically looking for: pointed toes, good body tension and alignment, arms stretched, legs straight and balances held for three seconds. Some feedback also included coaching points such as position your hands wider to help improve a frog balance. It has been fantastic to see how many new skills have been learnt and the improvement in the children's routines.
From bananas to Brazil's Carnival, Form 7 have been extending their knowledge of all things South American this week. They listened to Samba rhythms, watched clips of the Rio and Sao Paolo Carnivals and learnt about the etymologies of the words Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and Carnival (farewell to meat), as well as the origins of the festivals themselves. Their creative writing skills were put to the test too, as they had to imagine they were a banana, telling the tale of their life from plantation to supermarket shelf. Excitements along the way included a ride on a zipwire, two baths to get rid of pesky spiders, a sea voyage and being enveloped in ethylene gas to turn them from green to yellow. Banana puns abounded and their diaries contained a rollercoaster of banana emotions. One thing is for sure; F7 makes a great bunch of writers!
