Insides out

Form 4 have been excited to be back in school this week and have ploughed straight into their work.

In science, they had great fun guessing the animal from its skull and discussing what they though the animal ate depending on its teeth. Some were very easy, there was little debate about the elephant skull, but others proved more challenging. Distinguishing between a hunting dog, a hyena and a leopard was particularly difficult. Then it was time to look at our digestive system and try to accurately label the main parts.

In humanities, the children completed their work on the Romans with a look at various Roman gods and goddesses and learnt how to read Roman numerals. There was also time for a quick quiz on Google Classroom to see how much they had remembered.

A new book was introduced in English. The children discussed various famous authors and found out they would be looking at a Julia Donaldson book. They could name several picture books that she had written but none of them had heard of The Giants and the Jones, a chapter book aimed at older children. They quickly picked up on the fact that it is a reverse telling of the Jack and the Beanstalk story and have enjoyed learning some Groilish words. They have used the idea of a strange land at the top of a beanstalk to write some wonderful descriptions.
