Kindness and empathy
09 Jan 2026Form 5 have returned from the Christmas break full of energy and ready to learn. They’ve settled quickly back into the rhythm of lessons and are already showing great focus and enthusiasm.
In humanities, they have started a new topic on humanism, thinking about how humanists find meaning in life by looking at the world around them, human experiences, and shared values. The children have begun to explore how people can live good and purposeful lives without relying on religion, instead focusing on kindness, empathy, and making thoughtful decisions.
To support this, Form 5 had a special visit from Mr McCarthy, who spoke to them about the history and meaning of the Russell House school badge. He explained the significance of the cross-keys logo, what it represents, and how it reflects the values the school encourages in its pupils. This tied in well with the children’s learning about humanism, as they reflected on how shared values and traditions like those shown in a badge can give a sense of identity, community and purpose.
