King of my castle

Form 5 has been spending time in the ICT Hub, getting to grips with the brand-new Chromebooks. In humanities, the children used Google Earth to investigate the locations of real castles across the British Isles.

They discovered how natural defences such as rivers, hills, and cliffs played a key role in choosing where to build a castle during medieval times. Using their reasoning and map skills, they then explored the British Isles and selected a location where they would choose to build their own castle, explaining their choices based on landscape and defence. They also learned some useful digital skills, including how to take a screenshot of their chosen map and label it effectively.

In their computing lessons, Form 5 have been learning about digital communication tools and the importance of using them responsibly. They’ve had thoughtful discussions about online privacy, understanding how to keep their personal information safe and why it’s important to think carefully about what they share online. These are vital lessons as they begin to explore more digital platforms in their learning.

Creativity has been flowing like a chocolate river in English, as the class used their powers of onomatopoeia to create poems capturing the sounds and movements of Wonka's inventing room. Sticking to the structure and thinking carefully about their choice of words, the children created a room full of wonder and some quirky confectionery creations.
