Medieval times
12 Sep 2025Form 5 have made an exciting start to their new humanities topic, Medieval Britain, by stepping back in time with a fantastic trip to Bodiam Castle.

The children explored the many fascinating areas of the castle, hunting for key defensive features such as murder holes, arrow slits and the portcullis. They bravely climbed the narrow spiral staircases to the top of the towers, where they were rewarded with impressive views and they even spotted some bats now living high in the ruins!

The visit gave them a real sense of the castle’s size and strength. They spent time discussing and imagining what it would have been like to both defend and attack such a fortress in medieval times. Their excitement and curiosity brought the learning to life in a way only a real castle can.

To round off the day, the children also took part in some fun and creative activities inspired by the book How to Train Your Dragon. It was a brilliant day and the perfect way to launch their medieval topic.
