The week started with a visit to the Sainsbury’s pop-up shop in the Old Hall. We spoke to the children about the variety of fruit and vegetables and they were able to point to the correct one. There was lots of mathematical language and the Robins understood which was the biggest and the smallest.

In PE, the children listened well to my instructions and we played a very fun game of Start, Stop. When I said stop, the children had to quickly stand inside a hoop and when I said go, they had to run around the circle. Each time Miss Ruby removed a hoop to make it more challenging. There was a winner and she did some very good listening and running. The other children cheered as they encouraged their remaining friends to run around the circle. 

 

During our Talk for Learning activities, we spoke about our five senses. We made connections between tasting and oral hygiene as we discussed healthy and unhealthy snacks. This was later extended during our visit from Bupa Dental Practice. Each Pre-Prep class took part in an activity and discussed how to look after their teeth. During our visit in class, the dental nurses showed the children a variety of snacks/food and they had to work out whether they were good or not good. The Robins retained some of the key pieces of information, too. They remembered that we brush our teeth for two-minutes each morning and each night in circular motions. We hope the children liked their colouring sheets and stickers. 

As a special way of saying thank you, we made the lovely ladies a very special card to show our gratitude and appreciation for visiting us. We walked down to Mrs Tickner’s office and she kindly popped it in an envelope to post it to the dental practice. 

There have been many exciting sensory activities but the children’s favourite was popping the bubbles on the bubble wrap. There was also mark-making in flour and cinnamon which was lots of fun. 

Lots of fun was had using toothbrushes to brush the model teeth. The children persevered and remembered to use the brushes in a circular action which they remembered from our visit earlier in the week. 

This week’s cooking activities consisted of cheese spread sandwiches, wholemeal rolls, cinnamon sensory rolls, avocado spread and pizza. As a special treat, we enjoyed the avocado and bagels for our morning snack during Modern Foreign Languages Day. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and they asked if we could have it for a snack again. Therefore, I’ve adjusted our weekly shopping order to accommodate their interests. Miss Ruby and I also enjoyed some with the children as it was super yummy! 

The weather has been very nice and we’ve certainly made the most of the lovely sunshine by exploring the school grounds. We ventured to the field and spotted sheep in the field and also a red kite soaring above looking for a tasty treat below! Afterwards, in true Robins-style, the children enjoyed chasing bubbles before venturing back for a play in the Long Garden. Once back in the garden, the children liked playing in the mud kitchen and they used the natural resources to support their imaginative play. 

As part of Languages Day, we explored a variety of instruments whilst listening to some African music. As a special treat, I got the African drum for the children to use. We hope you like watching the video.

Next week, our topic will be Seed Gathering. We have lots of fun activities planned to support the children’s learning. The children are encouraged to bring in something from home (just not too big please) related to our weekly topic or anything else they would like to share or celebrate with us. The Robins enjoy sharing their objects from home during carpet time and it is a fantastic way to build effective communication and listening skills.
