Our visiting tiger

We started our week by watching the Form 4 play about Egyptians, which was absolutely amazing!

The acting and singing was first class and we are sure their families are going to love watching it this week. The costumes were fabulous and all the children remembered their lines, which in some cases were a lot!

Our author visit last Friday was such a unique and enjoyable experience. We began with storytelling from Sue Hendra, who read two of her books and then explained how she and her illustrator make up the stories which was very funny. All the audience from the Robins to Form 3 were mesmerised by her fantastic storytelling. Later in the morning, the Transition children came over to Nursery, where we made veggie superheroes! It was so exciting to choose which vegetable we would like from potatoes, sweet potatoes, courgettes or carrots and then which cape and belt we wanted for our vegetable before adding googly eyes and stars and spots to the belts. We named our vegetables and then drew them onto paper for our very own superhero book cover before listening to another story about Supertato and the Evil Pea. We all had such an amazing time and a lovely way to end the week. We hope you are enjoying reading the books which Sue signed.

The children have been practising their scissor skills by cutting tea bags to discover different teas and aromas to make tea for the tiger in our story this week. The children have been so engaged in this activity that they are truly masters of tea making now! Mrs Sayers and I have enjoyed numerous cups of delicious tea throughout the week, as well as bowls of porridge and cakes decorated with sugar cubes all made with different flavours of tea!

There was great excitement and anticipation for our Easter Egg Hunt on Tuesday! All morningm the children kept asking, how much longer?! As we walked to the pirate ship, we could see the RHPA mummies waiting for us and when we arrived they gave the children each a basket that they had to fill with eggs, chicks and ducks which were hidden all around the pirate ship. After counting down from 3 to 1, it was time to get collecting! The children were amazing at finding all the things to fill their baskets and when they were all finished with overflowing baskets they took them back to get their chocolate Easter egg! Of course, they were so excited to receive a chocolate egg and they all said a BIG thank you to the mummies and sat on the bench for a photo for Mrs Du Toit. We hope you all have a taste of the delicious chocolate egg!

In the garden, the children have enjoyed using their senses by exploring the coffee and hot chocolate! They loved spooning the mixture into jugs and pots and adding water to create more hot drinks for myself and Mrs Sayers. Nursery has been like a café this week! It was so lovely to see lots of sharing of the resources and taking turns to pour the water from the jugs.

Just in case the Tiger should come and visit you at home, the children made their own sandwiches and iced some cakes to have with him! They carefully spread the butter onto the bread and then chose cheese or strawberry jam to have in their sandwich. There was lots of sticky fun when they covered their cakes in icing and sprinkles and luckily there were some cakes leftover for the children to taste at snack time. We were glad we had eaten them before the Tiger appeared! The children loved making a shopping list for the Tiger by thinking about what he might like to eat or drink if he arrived hungry and thirsty at Nursery. They carefully drew pictures of what he would like and there were lots of lovely ideas such as different sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats! We hope you like the list we made.

The children loved making tiger masks by covering the paper plate with sticky glue then ripping and tearing the tiger tissue paper to put onto the glue. Fluffy ears were added as well as a soft nose and black whiskers and, finally, a lolly stick to hold the mask. There were a lot of VERY hungry tigers looking for all the food to eat in Nursery! The children are excited to bring them home so we hope you have plenty of food for the hungry tigers.

In the garden, the children loved exploring the shaving foam and paint. They squirted the foam from the bottles by pressing down on the top, which was very tricky as they were very slippery from all the soapy foam. They loved feeling it with their hands and we added orange and black paint to make tiger stripes, which were then combined to create a slushy brown colour.

It has been so lovely to have some beautiful warm spring sunshine this week, so the children enjoyed some water play whilst washing the baby dolls. The babies are so lovely and clean now after such a fabulous bubble bath and hair was washed using shampoo and rinsed with water from watering cans!

This is our last Nursery bulletin for this term and we can’t quite believe that the Spring Term is almost over! We are looking forward to making some Easter surprises next week and, of course, some special gifts for the mummies. We say goodbye to some of our Nursery friends who are off to new exciting times in the Transition class and we will welcome some new friends who will be joining us from Robins for a fun-filled Summer Term in Nursery.

Mrs Sayers and I would like to say a big thank you for all your support this term and we wish you a very Happy Easter. Have a lovely break.
