Practice makes perfect
13 Jun 2025We have had such a busy week this week from practising our sports day races to learning our songs for the Pre-Prep Celebration!
We have all loved listening to our story about the clever little ladybird this week who managed to trick Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len so that they couldn’t get their hands on the queen's crown! We all laughed when all they found in their sack were hundreds of bones instead of the crown!
The children loved manipulating the clay into a ladybird shape and adding spots, googly eyes and legs after painting it red with lots of red paint!
On the ctouch board, the children have been busy practising their counting and number skills by counting the spots on the ladybirds and finding the correct corresponding numerals. We were so impressed with the children’s counting and number recognition that we challenged them to look at numbers from 1 to 10 which some of the children were brilliant at finding.
The children have been busy making special cards for their daddies for Sunday and they have all amazed us at their super writing as they wrote their names in the cards. As they were so keen at finding their names from the registration board and writing their names, we printed out their names for them to copy for their Special Books. We hope you enjoyed seeing their writing and all their other pictures in their Special Books during parent consultations.
On Thursday, the children loved making a special treat for their daddies - there was lots of sticky gooey mixture and they had so much fun using the rollers to bash the biscuits into tiny pieces! After this, we headed to the field to practice our Sports Day races - and WOW how amazing the children were at listening to the instructions for each race and whizzing down the tracks to complete their races! As if they weren’t tired enough, the children then ran the length of the field several times before collapsing on the grass - myself and Mrs Sayers were exhausted just watching them.
As it was World Ocean Day on Sunday, we decided to celebrate by looking at one of Davis Attenborough’s wonderful videos about coral reefs. We all enjoyed watching it so much we made our own coral reef pictures by making lots of colourful handprints for the coral and adding sea creature stickers. We have also been reading a story called Somebody Swallowed Stanley which is about a plastic bag which is causing problems in the ocean. Mrs Sayers read a non-fiction book with the children all about sea creatures. The children have been brilliant at understanding the need to keep the seas free of rubbish and how we can look after our wonderful ocean. I have attached the link for the coral reef video if you would like to watch it at home.

On Wednesday, there was great excitement about choosing a gift for the daddies for their special day on Sunday. The lovely ladies at the stall were very patient while the children made their decisions and they were all thinking about some fantastic places where they could hide them - so no peeping, daddies! We hope you like the photo of the children with their bags full of gifts.
We hope you were excited to see the children’s magic beans which they have brought home this week - thankfully they were not eaten by the snails and slugs who ate our sunflower plants, which were originally planted for our Father's Day gifts - we had to go for plan B this week!
We have had lots of fun learning our songs this week. We are flying around the world and washing our clothes in the jungle to give you a little foretaste of what we are singing about!
On Monday and Friday, we join Form 1 and the Transition class for our sports day practice. They wait patiently and cheer on their friends in Transition and Form 1 before participating in the races, doing absolutely fabulous running races, throwing bean bags and an obstacle course.
Next week we are looking forward to going to the library to see Lorraine and Marianne. You are very welcome to join us at 9.30am if your child is not in on Tuesday. Mrs Sayers and I hope all the daddies enjoy a wonderful Father's Day on Sunday.
