Sport report: Netball

Reports on recent fixtures and tournaments, as written by Russell House players.

U10/11A v St David's Prep: Russell House played a great U11 match against St David's Prep. Final score was 11-22 to us. Jessica and Annabel did great passing and got the ball into our D, so Annabel and Rosie had lots of chances to shoot and both got great goals. Jessica got player of the match, which was really deserved as she played very well at centre. Zoey and Nahla are brilliant in defence, they made some great interceptions to help us win the ball back. I think everyone played very well, but we could work on our marking. Olivia

U10/11 B v St David's Prep: The B team played well today. The score was 12-10 to them, so we did lose but only by two goals. We played really well and the thing that matters most is the taking part in the match.  The player of the match was Imogen, who made some amazing interceptions. Isabella

U11 ISA National Finals: On the 11th of March, we travelled to Warwick to take part in the ISA National Netball Finals. The first match, we lost 8-1 as Lady Barn House are a very strong team, but the second match, however, we won 11-3 against Stover. The next match we played, we drew 3-3 against Gatehouse, but we were not on our top form and the fourth match, we won 5-4 against Thomas's Battersea. Next, we lost to Copthill 10-4, then we won against St Dominics 10-0. This meant that we came third in our group. We then went through to the quarter-finals of the plate and won 9-2 against Akeley Wood. We reached the semi-finals and won that too, 10-4 against Clare's Court and then won the finals 7-3 against Heywood Prep. This resulted in us winning the plate competition and coming away with gold medals from another National Finals! Alba

Replacing her, we had two new additions to the team, Lottie and Isabelle. They played extremely well, intercepting nearly every ball. Thanks to them and the rest of the team, we won all the group games. Rosie hurt her ankle in the semi-finals, but she stayed strong and her shooting was on point. Annabel was our GA and she made great quick passes to Jessica. Alba played incredibly throughout the entire tournament even with her sprained finger. Jessica made amazing long passes to Rosie and some great movement to receive passes from Annabel. Lottie and Isabelle were on fire sprinting all around the netball pitch getting all the balls that came to them. Olivia linked up some great opportunities to score goals. The first team we played was St Ronans and the score was 9-2 to us. Then we went on to play the second team in our group stage. This was a really tight game but in the end we won 8-7. The final game in our group stage was Holmewood House. We again played extremely well and in the end we won. That meant that we were through to the quarter-finals and we narrowly won that game after extra time. We then played Bromley High in the semi-finals, which we won. In the finals we played Walthamstow Hall. Poppy also scored some good goals as goal shooter.  Isabella, Ellie and Clara played really well in defence and didn't concede any goals. I think we could be running into space a bit more rather than just standing still.  We also had a strong defence to build up to get us to score and to defend our netball post.  So we had a really good match... and, of course, the match tea was delicious as well! Jessica
