03 Jul 2026A round-up of reviews of cricket, athletics, tennis and gymnastics for the Summer Term, as written by Russell House pupils.
Athletics
ISA U9-11: Emilia, Isabelle and Milo all qualified for a sprint final, whilst Harry qualified for both sprint finals. Unfortunately, they did not make the podium. However, the U9 girls relay team (Emilia, Imogen, Anastasia and Lara) won bronze as did Anthony in the long jump. Lara won gold in the 600m and qualified for the National Championships in Birmingham. We all loved competing and look forward to next year. Emilia
Kent Prep Schools Athletics: Jessica and Nahla participated in high jump. Bella and Jessica participated in the long jump, where Bella got her personal best. Annabel ran the 150m sprint and overall she came 3rd, winning the bronze medal. Then Alba threw the javelin an amazing 8.89m! In the 4x100m relay, we came 5th. Euan ran the 1200m and he threw very well in the shot put. In long jump, Harry finished in 4th place, narrowly missing out on a medal, and in the 150m he came 6th overall. Jake ran the 75m, 150m and relay races and he came 6th in the 100m race. Kit did high jump, long jump and the relay. He did great in all three things. Noah came 9th in the 600m. He also threw the javelin. Theo did the 75m race, high jump and the relay and his time in the 75m was 12.51 seconds. William did well in the 1200m race. Zach threw the javelin and ran the 600m and relay races. Zach came 6th in the 600m in his heat. Well done to all the athletes! Jessica
Hazelwood U10 and 11 athletics: The Form 6 and Form 7 girls took part in an athletics competition. Orla won her 75m race, Annabel won her 150m race and Nahla won her 600m race. The U11 girls won the 4x50m relay and Lottie won the long jump, followed by Bella in 2nd. Rosie and Zoey were the two highest finishers in the shot put too. In the U10s, Isabelle came 3rd in the 75m and high jump and Maka finished 3rd in the 600m. Well done, girls. Olivia
Cricket
BOYS U8A: We have won as many games as we have lost this year. Cameron has been the best team player as he encourages us all when we are playing. Henry has been our most reliable player whilst Orson has been a very effective batter, hitting boundaries in every innings. Our bowling has improved, but we need to keep working on being accurate for every ball. Henry & Cyrus
BOYS U8B: Although we lost our games, they were very close and we enjoyed playing. Soren has been the most positive person in our team. He is always smiling and encourages others. Batting has been our strong point this year whilst bowling has been a little inaccurate with too many wides. We need to keep working on our fielding, especially chasing the ball and throwing it back as quickly as possible. William & Hugo
GIRLS U8/9A: We have won most of our matches this season as we have batted very strongly. Our bowling is also strong and we have been helped by some amazing fielding like Petra taking a leaping catch in one match. Eliora and Anastasia have always supported everyone and given encouragement in each match. Lara has been our most consistent bowler throughout the season. Eliora & Imogen

GIRLS U8/9B: We have enjoyed a winning season. Baani has been our best bowler because she always bowls straight at the stumps, whilst Erin has been our strongest batter. Modupe is our best fielder as she is very alert and has a brilliant throw. Even though our communication has improved, we still need to work on this for next year. Evelyn & Erin
GIRLS U8/9C: We have won more games than we have lost this year. Our team has bowled very well this year, particularly Sadie who is very focused when bowling. When we are fielding, we need to pay attention more and support the bowler. Ophelia needs a special mention as she supports all her teammates, regardless of what happens, and she also hit two sixes in one over! Isabella & Poppy
BOYS U9: In our match and in our training sessions, Rion has always batted strongly, whilst Arthur has been one of our most consistent bowlers. Our communication when batting has improved this year, although we need to improve our communication in the field so we know who is going for a catch. Leo & Jasper
MIXED U10/11A: We have won every match this season. Bowling is our stronger skill overall and we regularly take wickets. When batting, we have rotated the strike well, picking up singles, as well as hitting boundaries through Zachary, Euan, Annabel and Jessica. We have found playing our first season of hardball really enjoyable. Kit & Jake
BOYS U10/11B: In the first match of the season against Hilden Oaks, we won. Keeping our winning streak, our second game of the season we won against King’s Rochester, showing that we were not just an average cricket team. Theo
GIRLS U10/11A: In one game, Zoey took four wickets from four balls, as well as running out three batters! Rosie has been our strongest batter, hitting two sixes in one match. We have mostly enjoyed batting but do need to work on our fielding. Zoey & Clara
GIRLS U10/11B: We have won the majority of our games, with Kiki dominating one game with her bowling. Isabella has been very strong in batting, as have Evie and Isabelle. We have improved our bowling and fielding the most, particularly when reacting to the opposition trying to run. Nahla & Maya
GIRLS U10/11C: During this season in cricket, we played several schools including, Radnor House and Rosehill. We won two and lost two, but the rain affected all the other matches. Our standout players were Maka, Jessie and Isla. Maka and Isla both performed well in batting and Jessie was great at fielding! Jaya & Jessie
Gymnastics
We celebrated our most successful gymnastics year yet! The U11 South East Team were crowned national champions again this year, winning the George Finney Shield for the highest scoring region in the U11 category. Our Boys Pair won the bronze medal in the U13 Boys Sport Acrobatics. Our U11 Boys Team won the silver medal in the Floor & Vault competition and one of our gymnasts was the second-highest scoring gymnast in the competition!
Tennis
The county tennis competition was very tough this year. Henry and I had to play the number 1 ranked U9 player in the country! The standard was so high and even though we struggled, we were very happy with how we improved during the event. Arthur and Noah just missed out on qualifying for the finals day. Soren
