Staying fit
20 Jun 2025This week’s topics in Russell Robins were Staying fit/ Sport.
We started the week meeting a prospective Robin during their Taster session. I must say, our existing children did a fabulous job of showing him how we collect our shopping from the pop-up shop. The children used their super strong muscles to fill the reusable bags. Well done, Robins.
Everyone worked very hard, practising for Sports Day and we spent so much time using our muscles to stay fit as part of our topic. We hope you are all looking forward to joining us next week for our races and Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
Miss Ruby and I are so thrilled with how much support we receive as part of the weekly topics. It really is so wonderful to have so much parental input. Some of the Robins brought in a tennis racket, tennis ball and stepping stones. We even watched a demonstration of how to use the balance stepping stones during carpet time.
It has certainly been very busy this week and it was nice meeting some of our new Robins during their settling in sessions. Our existing children were all very helpful and it was lovely to see them model their fantastic manners and listening skills.
This week’s cooking activities consisted of cinnamon buns, fruity kebabs, football biscuits, strawberry surprise and a giant cookie. I must say, there were lots of lovely scents coming from class during our baking sessions. This week, the children enjoyed a dough disco but with their bread dough! The children Reached for the Stars as they boogied their way to the music whilst kneading, patting and poking the dough. Afterwards, the rolls/ buns went into the oven and then a short while later, they were iced…delicious! Lots of fun was had, using the food mixer to whisk the cream into whipped cream. The Robins then added strawberries, jam and cake sponge to the cream to create their individual pots of yumminess.
The Summer Term is certainly very busy and we have already started singing our songs for the Celebration of Learning. It has been great listening to the children sing the songs during free-play and they even stood in front of their friends, so there was an audience.
The bird feeding station has attracted lots of birds this week…and also Cyril the Squirrel. In fact, we spotted a female blackbird pecking her way through the seed.
Our Form 6 helpers came in to visit us and whilst playing in the Long Garden, they noticed some little green tomatoes growing in our planter. There are also some green strawberries so hopefully it won’t be long until we can enjoy them for our snack.
Later in the week, we hugged a tree and tried forest bathing. We sat amongst the trees and sat quietly so we could listen to all the sounds of nature. As a treat, we also had our snack outside under the shade.
To keep us cool this week, the children have enjoyed yummy watermelon and icy-cold smoothies. Snack time is a special time in Russell Robins as this is when we come together to share our weekend news.
Our topics for next week are Stonepitts Farm, Sports Day and Insect Week. Your child is welcome to bring in something from home linked to our topic or their interests (bookbag size). They will have the opportunity to share these during Show and Tell.
