Story adventures

What an exciting week we have had! From author visits to story adventures, the children in Nursery have loved every second of Book Week!

Our book activities started on Monday, with building a bridge for the Billy Goats Gruff to pass over the river. The children demonstrated good imagination, teamwork and recalled the story well. These skills were used again in the garden when the children wanted to build their own houses, just like the Three Little Pigs! We also practised our counting and number writing skills in a fairytale I-Spy worksheet.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a picnic snack time in the sunshine and enjoyed reading the first story in our bookvent. Children brought in a story from home all wrapped up, and each day we opened a new one to share with the class. Some that we have had so far this week have been Dogger, Panda Bear, What Do You See? and Tyrannosaurus Drip, and we still have more to open! It's been lovely to read new stories we haven't heard before and for the children to share their stories from home.

Wednesday was a very busy morning. We started by making Big Bad Wolf bookmarks and trying to build houses for the Three Little Pigs out of straw, sticks and bricks. The children loved mixing different materials together to create cement. Afterwards, the children enjoyed their music class where they explored and played different instruments, followed by our author visit. We were very lucky to have Helen Peters come and read us one of her stories. The children all listened beautifully and even got a signed copy of one of her books!

The best day this week was on Thursday, when we had our story adventure! We began in Nursery, where we had to explore the deep, dark woods to find the Gruffalo, mouse and all the other animals. We also had some Gruffalo colouring, a puzzle and a sensory tuff tray to explore.

The next stop was Transition class, and we went to space! Miss Lindley read us The Smeds and the Smoos on a different planet, and then we got to play with the pink milkshake, sort the aliens into their different colours and draw our own spaceships and planets!

After a little break, the Nursery class visited Mrs Cooper and became zookeepers! The children loved the book Poo in the Zoo and enjoyed learning about the different animals. Last, but not least, we went to the Robins class where Mrs Warner read us Supertato, which is one of our favourite stories and the children came back to Nursery and roleplayed it afterwards!

This week we have also celebrated Wildlife Day by exploring different habitats in a small world set up. This Wednesday was also Holi, which we celebrated in our flick painting activity. The children painted strings wrapped around a tray, then flicked the strings to the paper, enjoying watching the colours mix and splat everywhere.

Next week is Science Week. We will be exploring weather, seasons and the changes that come with these in the natural world with our story Little Bear's Spring. Have a fantastic weekend!
