Sun hats, no coats!

What a wonderful week of beautiful sunshine we have had this week! It has been so lovely to take so much of our learning outside and enjoy the weather with our sun hats and no coats.

The children have loved listening to our story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar this week and joined in with the story by recalling the life cycle and all the food that he ate to make him a big caterpillar! We have been very impressed with the children's knowledge that his special home is called a cocoon and the wonder of how he transforms into such a beautiful butterfly.

The children have made their very own life cycles by cutting out the pictures and putting them in the correct order by looking at the pictures in the book. These are looking fabulous on our display in the classroom. We listened to the letter sound of C for caterpillars and the children made a caterpillar collage on the letter C as well as thinking of other names and words which begin with the same letter sound. The children have enjoyed looking at the resources in our Hungry Caterpillar story sack and sequenced the story using the felt pictures and feeding the caterpillar with the pictures of the food. Unfortunately, our caterpillars have been unexpectedly delayed so they will hopefully be arriving in 2 weeks. We are now thinking that they may have to be adopted out for the half-term holiday!

There was lots of fun splodging the paint onto the paper using different colours to create beautiful butterflies. The children listened really well to splodge the paint on one side and to fold it over and rub the paper before opening up to see the fabulous symmetrical patterns! Then, of course, there was lots of fun sprinkling glitter onto the paint to make the butterflies sparkle. I think you agree that they look amazing on our Hungry Caterpillar display.

In the garden, the children have loved lots of water play and building with the wooden bricks to make buildings and garages for the diggers.

On Monday, we went to see if the lambs were in the farmer's field, only to find that they were in a field unfortunately too far away to see them! Luckily, the pony was feeling friendly so he came to see us and he LOVED eating all the grass on our side of the fence, so we had to be very careful that he didn’t nibble our fingers instead of the grass! We loved watching his big teeth pulling and munching on the tasty grass.

The children have been busy learning a new song called Caterpillar with Miss Norford this week. There has been lots of singing the words chomp chomp and yum yum going on in the Nursery too. We hope they are singing it to you at home as well!

After our fruit snack on Wednesday, the children were treated to some fruits which the caterpillar had eaten in the story. Strawberries, pears, oranges, apples and watermelon were tasted and all the children agreed that the strawberries and watermelon were the best!

We were treated to a wonderful Pre-Prep assembly from Form 2 this week, where they flew off to different countries and told us some very interesting facts about each country. We all thought they did a fantastic job and we all learnt some very useful information about the countries. Our Special Leaf this week for our Learning and Growing Tree was for super hard work and resilience to cut around the pictures of the life-cycle of a butterfly. A proud moment for myself and Mrs Sayers.

On Thursday we made some cupcakes. These were made dairy-free and egg-free and we were very pleased with the results! Beautiful soft fluffy cakes, although we were hoping to make them into butterfly cakes, but they were too crumbly so the children ate the spare ones for their snacks! Mrs Sayers had a bit of a battle with the electric whisk as cake the mixture was flying everywhere! While the cakes were cooking in Robins, we ventured up to the paddock again to see if we could see the lambs. We spotted a few in a field, though they were quite far away. We watched the pony nibbling his grass and we waved at Mr John who was cutting the grass on the ride-on mower. We then went and had a lovely play on the climbing equipment in the shade - we hope you love the photos of all our climbing and balancing!

Finally, Mrs Sayer and I are so impressed with how beautifully the children can line up when we are ready to go out and about or to our music lesson.

We hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and we look forward to another fun, busy week in Nursery next week, when we are doing lots of activities for our story of Diggersaurs
