Making a splash
27 Feb 2026The new half term began with a trip off-site on Monday, as the class boarded a train to visit the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Having been given roles to play, the children enjoyed acting out a real-life scenario in the courtrooms and discussing the judicial system and its purposes.
There has been much excitement around maths in Form 7 this week, with their shape project progressing to finding the volume of 3D shapes. Using the idea of displacement, the children dunked 3D shapes into water, in order to measure the volume of water that had been forced out of the tub, thus finding the volume of the shape.
With the focus then turning specifically to cylinders, the children set to work, using measurements of tin cans to accurately design and create labels to go on their own Amazonian tinned food. Some of the more creative items for sale in their supermarket included banana pieces, coffee in a can, chocolate bites and parrot sweets.
In other mathematical news, after qualifying several weeks ago, a team of four Form 7s took part in the semi-finals of the National Maths Championships hosted by the Quiz Club on Friday. We now eagerly await the results to see if we have reached the final.
Deforestation has been the subject of debate in English this week. It's not as black and white as it might seem though. The class has been looking at the effects of deforestation in the Amazon, but also the reasons for it and, most importantly, the solutions. These include huge seed projects to rewild desertified areas, Fair Trade and educating indigenous peoples about using technology like drones to monitor illegal logging. The children have been creating scripts of conversations between people whose points of view about deforestation differ, thus investigating the complex arguments surrounding the issue.
It has been a busy week of sport too, with several children competing in tournaments and competitions. There were some excellent results in the ISA regional cross-country event on Tuesday. Next, the U11 netball team travelled to the national netball finals in Hampshire on Wednesday, proudly returning with bronze medals - an incredible achievement with which the children are rightly delighted.
Keep your eyes peeled for photos of the netballers next week, which is also Book Week in school. Although there is no dress up day this year, the children have been sending in photos of themselves reading in extreme places. They will also be visited by an author and take part in the annual book quiz.
