We enjoyed a lovely circle time together where we shared things about ourselves. The children decided to share about their brothers and sisters, pets, favourite colour, hobbies or favourite foods and there were lots of great choices! We also loved reading the book You Choose, where the children took it in turns to come up and choose their favourite from the page. We realised that sometimes we are the same as other people and sometimes we are different and that that’s okay.

The Colour Monster came to visit us this week and he helped us to learn all about our emotions. The poor Colour Monster was all confused, but Transition were very kind and quickly helped him to sort his colours out into the correct feelings jars, working as a fantastic team. We then reminded ourselves of the resources in our calm basket, in case we have our own big feelings and need a little bit of help to feel happy again. I loved the suggestions the children came up with to help ourselves and each other if we were feeling sad or lonely - what kind friends. 

We had a fantastic art lesson this week exploring paint! We learned where all of the painting resources are kept in our classroom and how to set everything up ready for success! We then got stuck into pouring paints, mixing colours and designing our masterpieces, including an Easter egg hunt, a shark and the desert! We continued being creative as we visited Miss Norford for our first music lesson, which was lots of fun. The children listened carefully to her instructions before delighting us with their super singing. 

We had another adventure into the deep dark woods in literacy this week as we practised mark-making in sand. As Mrs Nelson read us the story, the children had a fantastic go at drawing each of the characters and their different houses. It was lovely to hear the children thinking so carefully about the different shapes and features of each character and setting in the story. 

During Phonics, we listened for environmental sounds. We practised identifying different household noises in the classroom, such as the hoover, and the children had fantastic ideas about what these noises could be. We have also practised our counting this week, singing lots of counting songs in maths and working out the date for our class calendar. The children were excellent at working out which number came next in our songs and knew that we could use the numberline to help us find one more or one less. Great work Transition. 

We ventured out to The Paddock this week to explore, taking it in turns to climb on the equipment and practice our ball skills. Everyone had such a great try at rolling their ball with control between the cones and Mrs Nelson was very impressed by everyone’s bravery as they climbed up the climbing equipment, for some children, for the very first time!

It has been lovely to get back into the routine of our week in Transition, including our Pre-Prep assembly, music with Miss Norford and our gymnastics lesson in the hall, as well as enjoying lots of lovely play inside and outside the classroom. We have been busy driving cars in the small world, making bracelets, fixing puzzles and building castles in the construction area!
