Tinsel and lights

The children have been getting festive this week and were excited on Monday to find the class Christmas tree had arrived in Form 1!

The children set to work decorating it with lots of tinsel and lights. The children found some baubles with missing string, so took them to the Elf Workshop role play to fix them and add them to the tree. Other creations have been made in the roleplay this week with plenty of gems and glitter thrown in for good measure!

On Tuesday, the children learnt about speech bubbles and how these can be used in stories. We read the story Stick Man by Julia Donadlson and thought about all the things the character might be saying at different points in the story. The children came up with lots of super ideas and enjoyed pretending to be Stick Man, getting into character and using their imaginations brilliantly.

The children then drew their favourite part of the story or cut out a picture and wrote their own speech bubbles for that particular moment. They are becoming more and more confident about writing sentences and we are very proud of how well they are doing.

In maths this week, we have been learning about numbers that add up to 10. We call these number bonds and the children have worked hard to explore this concept using our maths resource Numicon. The children matched the tiles and checked against a 10 tile to make sure they were correct. They then recorded their findings in a number sentence in their maths books.

After feeling inspired by the Stick Man story, the children were keen to make their own Stick Man and the other stick family. We gathered sticks and then joined them together using wool to make arms and legs. Using a potato peeler, the children removed some of the bark and then drew faces using a pen.

This week, the children started to sew their penguin Christmas tree decorations. Using a needle and some wool, the children carefully stitched around the edge of their penguin and then attached the other features using glue. Finally, they were able to stuff their little penguins and hang them to dry. The children will be able to take these home at the end of the term.

The children continue to rehearse for their Nativity performance and they are doing wonderfully well! We are all extremely proud of the children and everyone is very excited to perform for you next week.

Another busy week full of fun for Form 1!
