Unlocking humanism
16 Jan 2026This week, Form 5 had the opportunity to lead an assembly for the main school, sharing some of their recent learning with confidence and enthusiasm.
The focus of the assembly was on symbolism in humanism, and the children explained how humanists often use symbols to express shared values and meaning. They linked this to our own school identity by exploring the crossed key logo, reflecting on what it represents and how it connects to the school’s history and ethos. As part of their presentation, they shared information from their recent talk with Mr McCarthy, who had visited the class to explain the meaning and background of the school badge.
The class also looked at the history of keys, from ancient designs to more modern types like fingerprint and face-recognition technology. They even posed thoughtful questions about what symbols and keys might look like in the future. Form 5 spoke clearly and thoughtfully, and should be proud of how well they represented their learning and their class to the rest of the school.
In maths, the children have been working hard on the topic of fractions, exploring them in a variety of engaging and practical ways. They have enjoyed tackling puzzles, reasoning challenges, and even some competitive games that helped them deepen their understanding of equivalent fractions, comparing sizes, and solving problems. The class have shown great perseverance and teamwork while applying their fraction knowledge in fun and meaningful contexts.
