What did the dinosaurs do?

Very strange things have been happening in Form 1 this week… our toy dinosaurs have been coming to life!

On Monday morning, the children came in and found the dinosaurs had escaped from their basket and ziplined over to the easel and wrote a message saying; Can we play in Form 1? They seemed to be reading a book all about dinosaurs and having a race with the toy cars!

The children were very surprised and decided that we should try to make them an area in the classroom for them to play in that was safe. The children set to work painting some cardboard boxes to create volcanoes, created beds for them and a sandpit for them to play in. The children wanted to make their own dinosaurs out of clay and they had a great time adding feathers, spikes and beaks to their creations.

Unfortunately, the dinosaur play area did not seem to work and on Tuesday the children discovered the dinosaurs having a party! They were eating biscuits from the snack tin and (the children found this very funny) it must have been one of the dinosaur's birthdays as they had used our wooden birthday cake and had presents and party hats. The children decided it was time to let Mr McCarthy know about the strange things happening in Form 1 so everyone wrote a letter explaining the funny things the dinosaurs had been up to!

Everyone enjoyed visiting the book fair and looking at all the lovely books available. Of course, the children found books all about dinosaurs and enjoyed reading all about them while we chose the books we wanted to buy. The children chose some great books and were very happy to be able to take their chosen book home.

On Wednesday, the children found the dinosaurs in the sink having a wash!  They looked very funny trying to use the big taps and the children decided they must want to get clean. Everyone grabbed a dinosaur and gave them a good wash using soap and towels. Some children decided to make traps to stop the dinosaurs getting into any more trouble. There were lots of good ideas about the size of the boxes that would be needed and if they were strong enough, the type of tape that should be used and whether string was better than wool. Super team work all around and lots of problem solving!

It was also Form 1’s assembly on Wednesday and the children shared the work that had been done last week all about Diwali with the rest of Pre-Prep. They did a fantastic job of acting out the story of Rama and Sita and explaining how this festival is celebrated around the world. They also showed their clay divas and the ghee candles they had made.

In maths, we have been looking at subtraction and understanding that the numbers get smaller when we perform this operation. This was all dinosaur-themed, of course, and the children used gems pretending they were dinosaur biscuits getting eaten up!

The dinosaurs managed to get into the paints on Thursday morning and they were very, very messy! The children decided to give them a bubble bath so we set up a washing station to get them nice and clean again. On Friday they actually managed to escape Form 1 and we discovered them in Russell Hall as we went up to rehearse our Christmas play. They were all sitting on the piano and we thought that they very much enjoyed our Nativity rehearsal.

The dinosaurs are safely back in Form 1 and the children are hoping they don't get into too much mischief over the weekend!
