365 penguins

It has been book week in school and Form 7 has engaged in a variety of different themed tasks on the topics of reading and books.

We began the week with our annual Inter House Book Quiz on Monday. In the quiz, there were multiple rounds with topics including naming the author of books, recognising characters from their photos and first lines from books. Could you tell where the line comes from; Look, I didn’t want to be a half blood!

On Wednesday we received a visit from Helen Peters, whose books we already stock in our library! After finding out a little bit about her, we were asked to help solve a mystery about Winston Churchill, which was set during World War 2. We loved receiving our brand new signed books and went off to start reading them straight after our visit.

In our maths lesson on Thursday, we read the book 365 penguins, which tells the mystery of a family that receives a new penguin each day for a year. This inspired lots of different mathematical challenges relating to triangular and cubed numbers. We also enjoyed the Extreme Reading assembly, which featured photos that lots of the children had sent in over the course of the past couple of weeks, in which they were tasked to read in unusual and extreme places. Thank you to everybody that sent their photo in. The pictures are on our Facebook Page.
