I see, I think, I wonder
10 Oct 2025Anachronism was the word of the week in English, as Form 7 wrote continuations of an exciting excerpt from Swiss Family Robinson.
We talked about making sure that their style matched the original, which was written in 1812. This meant no references to devices, no cars, no motorboats...nothing electrical at all! Working hard to avoid these anachronisms, the children wrote varied, descriptive and in some cases quite gory conclusions to the original text.
Form 7 has also been exploring life in the trenches during World War I, learning about the difficult conditions soldiers faced and how the war was fought on the Western Front. They created their own sets of Top Trump-style cards to evaluate key WWI weapons, debating which had the biggest impact on the outcome of the war. In addition, the children have taken part in a series of I See, I Think, I Wonder creative thinking lessons, where they’ve been challenged to look beyond the obvious and explore different perspectives in history.
Form 7 have been exploring Music Links over the past few weeks. As a class, we have discussed why we study music and how the skills that we learn in music can feed into every other subject that we study at school. For example, you can't be part of Choristers, Orchestra, or Chamber Choir without teamwork, which is also an integral skill in sport. Maths skills are applied in music when subdividing rhythms and counting beats. Without music, what would you dance to? Form 7 have been working either in pairs or individually, using chromebooks, to research links between music and another subject they enjoy at school. They have collated some information which they are now inputting into an attractive and informative poster. The finished pieces of work will be presented to the class next week.
Form 7's musicality was also demonstrated in the Harvest Assembly this week. Thank you for all of your kind donations to the food bank and well done to all of the performers, who ranged from readers, to pianists, to poets, to singers. It was a great occasion.
