Funny combinations
12 Sep 2025Form 4 have had a great first full week of term.
They spent time looking at the Anthony Browne book, Into the Forest, and were very cross when they were left on a cliffhanger early on in the week! Luckily, there was time to finish off the story and the children thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the hidden details in the picture. They also had a lot of fun making silly sentences with a range of adjective and noun cards.
In maths, they have been looking at place value and ordering numbers. These have extended up to millions and have included decimal places. The children have done a great job of lining up the digits correctly to compare them.
In humanities, they have looked at the extent of the Roman Empire and discussed some of the reasons why the Romans invaded other countries. There was also time for a quick look around Pompeii (via Google Earth).
In science, the children conducted an experiment to see how shadow size changes when a light source is moved. It was tricky and prompted some excellent discussion about fair testing and the need to only change one variable. The children then used their results to produce a scattergraph using a Google spreadsheet.
