Performance season has arrived

What a whirlwind of activity it's been in Form 7 this week!

Well done to the Form 7's involved in the National Floor & Vault Finals at Stoke-on-Trent last weekend. Having qualified back in January, the children were representing both Russell House and the South East. Once again, our team was rewarded for their tremendous efforts with an overall third place for the Russell House team in the U11 Boys floor and vault, before earning a gold as part of the South East team. On a final sporting note this week, well done to the Russell House girls’ cricket teams, who played out three entertaining matches against St Michael’s on Wednesday in their first fixtures of the Summer Term.

English speaking has been the focus of this week, with our Form 7's very excited to find out more about the audition process for the Summer Production. Time was spent in class beginning to learn parts of the storyline and trying out a few of the different roles on offer. These speaking skills have also been tested during the build up to the Public Speaking event which will be held today. Congratulations to the finalists and good luck with your presentations.

In other subjects, six of our Form 7’s took part in the area heats for the National Mathematics Quiz Championship on Thursday. Spread across two teams, the children had to answer very difficult questions and submit their group answers within a strict time limit. At the halfway mark, one of our teams was tied for first place with full marks before dropping away towards the end. Regardless, they achieved automatic qualification to the semi-finals. Our other team will have to wait until after the final area heat has taken place to learn if they too have qualified.

Much of Form 7’s work in humanities and French has been building up towards their residential next week. With many exciting activities planned for when they are on camp, the children have been researching places of historical interest and creating presentations to deliver whilst they are away.
