Race to the moon
16 Jan 2026Form 4 have shown a great interest in our rocks and soils topic this week and they particularly enjoyed finding out about various volcanoes around the world. They are all very much looking forward to next week's rock workshop as a result.
They also spent time investigating the various treasures found at Sutton Hoo. They looked at how the treasures were discovered and how the archaeologists pieced parts together. Some of the children's ideas as to the use of certain objects were excellent and they made some very astute comments about the possible identity of the person buried there.
In maths, the children have been consolidating their knowledge of addition and subtraction of large numbers. They have been looking at ways to quickly complete calculations mentally and when they need to write things down. A fun way to practise this was in the form of a competitive game, rather like the game show Blockbusters, to reach the other side whilst also blocking their partner.
Non-chronological reports have been the focus in English. The children have chosen a pet to research in order to write an information leaflet about how to care for it. As well as the usual range of cats and dogs, there are some other more exotic examples, such as axolotls and pangolins!
