Viking times
30 Jan 2026Form 4 have been immersed in history this week.
They found out about Viking longships and the raid on Lindisfarne in humanities and then used the Anglo-Saxon story of Beowulf as an inspiration for story writing in their English lessons. The children are writing a quest story about Beowulf's journey to find and defeat Grendel's mother. They have some excellent ideas about places they can visit and have made use of a range of adjectives and sentence starters to add interest to their work.
In maths, the children have been tackling fractions. They have covered fractions of a shape, fractions of an amount, adding and subtracting fractions where the denominator is the same, and looking for equivalent fractions. Although it has been challenging, the children have shown good perseverance and a willingness to have a go.
Science saw a chance to have a good dig around in the soil to see what they could find. As well as the expected leaves, roots and rocks, they discovered pieces of tile, a range of creatures and, unfortunately, pieces of plastic. They then spent some time carrying on our research on Mary Anning and looking at her amazing discoveries.
