When in Rome...

Form 4 have had an exciting week. Not only were they excited to perform for their parents at the Harvest Assembly, they also had a great trip out to Kent Life for a Roman day.

The children took part in various workshops throughout the day. They began by finding out about Roman inventions and had a go at using a groma to build a straight road. They also had to build their own aqueduct and try to transport 'water' from one end to the other using small pieces of plastic drainpipe. Then it was on to find out about the Celts with time to meet Boudicca and join her Iceni warriors.

Later in the morning, the children met a tanner and thoroughly enjoyed making their own amulets by hammering initials into small pieces of leather they could wear on a necklace. There was also time to try out Roman graffiti before lunch.

After lunch, the children enjoyed a ride on the tractor train and then found out about Roman food and drink. The final workshop of the day was with a very fierce Roman centurion. The children all had to join the army and practised making the tortoise formation, complete with swords and shields. It was a very enjoyable, educational day.
